BODYMEDIA AND HIGHMARK BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD PARTNER TO OFFER TOOLS FOR HEALTHIER LIFESTYLES

PITTSBURGH, May 29 (PRNewswire) -- Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and BodyMedia, Inc. are forming a strategic partnership to offer BodyMedia's unique products and services that help people get fit, feel better, and maintain a balanced healthy lifestyle. Through a co-branded website, accessed through http://www.highmark.com, Highmark's 3 million members can receive discounts for BodyMedia's Balance Center program and its SenseWear(TM) Armband.

The Balance Center, a web-based program, provides information and support on how to maintain a balanced life through diet, activities, rest and taking responsibility for your own health. The simple point and click format enables Highmark members to provide The Balance Center with information on their healthy daily routine to (1) conveniently track nutrition, sleep, exercise, mind centering, and other activities, (2) get online, personalized guidance in identifying barriers to better health, and (3) become better educated and empowered on how to meet goals like managing stress, losing weight, or to quit smoking.

The SenseWear Armband is a comfortable body monitor that is worn above the member's elbow. Because the Armband electronically enters and tracks specific information about a member's lifestyle, it reduces the time a consumer spends manually entering information into the Balance Center. For example, the Armband electronically monitors the time a member goes to sleep and awakens each day, the member's heart rate, calories burned, and quality of sleep, then downloads all of this information wirelessly to the Balance Center.

Working together, the Balance Center and the SenseWear Armband provide consumers with unique tools to track daily health routines so they can better understand their progress toward attaining a healthier, more balanced lifestyle.

Memberships for the Balance Center program are now available. The SenseWear Armband is expected to be available later this year. Highmark members simply log on to http://www.highmark.com to take advantage of this new offer.

"Our new partnership with BodyMedia continues to build on Highmark's commitment of helping our members to live longer, better lives while providing them with convenient access to health, wellness and insurance-related information via the Internet," said James M. Klingensmith, Sc.D., Highmark's group executive vice president for Health Insurance.

"At BodyMedia, we understand that lifestyle choices contribute to both the development of and the solution to health problems. We also believe that balance is better medicine and the foundation for getting and staying well.

Working with Highmark, we want to help consumers make better choices and the right lifestyle changes so they can attain their goals for a healthier life," said Dr. Astro Teller, BodyMedia's CEO. BodyMedia is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
