BodyMedia FIT Display Support

- What is the Display device?
The Display is an optional accessory for the BodyMedia FIT Armband Advantage or CORE. It provides you minute by minute updates on your calories burned, steps taken and physical activity levels. The Display will also provide messages when you achieve your daily targets.
All of this and more is also available when you sync with your BodyMedia FIT Armband with your online Activity Manager on your computer.
- How do I sync my Display with Armband Advantage or CORE?
To begin using your Display, you must initially sync it with your Armband.
- Slide the Armband onto your left arm and wait for it to power on (go on body).
- Press and release the Armband's Status Button. The Armband will play a tone if it is properly on body.
- Be sure the Display is within 3 feet of your Armband. After the Armband powers on, hold down the Display's MODE and VIEW buttons until "HELLO" is displayed across the screen.
- When "PRESS ARMBAND BUTTON TO SYNC" appears, press and quick release the Armband Status Button.
- "WELCOME and your User Name" will scroll across the Display to indicate pairing and synchronization are complete.
If the Armband is not within range of the Display or is not powered on, the Display will scroll ARMBAND NOT FOUND. In this case, try repeating the above steps.
The Armband and Display must be synchronized before the Display will function properly. Information is transmitted every 60 seconds from the Armband to the Display as long as they are in sync. If data is not received from the Armband for 5 minutes, the Display will revert to a NOT IN SYNC mode and display the TIME. They may also go out of sync due to environmental interference. Once the Armband and Display have been paired, you can re-sync the Armband and Display by simply pressing the button on the Armband, then pressing the MODE button on the display.
- I've noticed a slight difference in the values for calories, activity and steps between my Display and the Activity Manager. Is this expected?
The Activity Manager runs complex statistical algorithms that take the Armband data and compute your calories. The Activity Manager also incorporates historical data to personalize this calculation even further.
The Armband contains a condensed set of algorithms that can calculate calories and send them directly to the Display every minute. Because the full power of the web server is required for the most complete analysis of your Armband data, small differences can occur in the calories between the Display and the Activity Manager.
NOTE: Wearing the Armband UPSIDE DOWN is the leading cause of Display/Activity Manager mismatch. If you wear the Armband on the left arm the 'right way up,'' with the logo toward your shoulder and the lights toward your elbow, the daily calories shown on the Display and the Activity Manager will match within 5%.
- How often is the Display updated?
The Display receives your Armband data once per minute while synchronized with the Armband. All data (calories, steps, activity, etc) are updated at the same time.
- How do I replace the Display battery?
The Display comes equipped with a replaceable CR-2032 coin cell battery. When the battery needs to be replaced, we recommend that you take the Display to a jeweler or watch vendor. To replace the battery yourself:
- Make sure you have a fresh CR-2032 coin cell battery, a #0 size Phillips head screwdriver, and a soft cloth.
- Remove the Display device from the watchband or clip.
- Turn the device over onto a soft cloth, revealing the underside, and remove the four small screws attaching the metal back plate to the Display. Only remove the screws on the metal back plate, do not remove the screws on the edge of the Display.
- Remove the old battery.
- Press any button on the display for 10 seconds. You will not hear a beep to alert you that 10 seconds have passed.
- Replace the battery with the new one, with the (+) side facing up.
- Ensure that the o-ring gasket is properly seated in the groove to provide a watertight seal.
- IMPORTANT: Reattach the back plate, with the text facing up. Ensure that the arrow that says up (on the inside of the metal back) points towards the top of the device. If the back plate is not reattached correctly, the Display device will not turn on.
- Once attached, turn the unit over and press any button to wake the Display.
- Dispose of the old battery properly.
The expected life of this battery under normal use is 6-12 months. Coin cell batteries can be readily purchased from a variety of online vendors, electronic stores and drug stores.
More
- My Display says "NOT IN SYNC".
The BodyMedia Advantage or BodyMedia CORE Armband must be "on body" (touching your skin and turned on) in order to successfully sync with the armband. You can find out if the Armband is on-body by quickly pressing the status button. If the Armband makes a sound, then it is on-body and recording data.
If you take the Armband off, the Armband and Display will stop their communication because there is no new information to display.
If the Display and the Armband are separated by more than 3 feet (1m) then they may stop communicating.
If you are following the above guidelines and are still experiencing a sync issue please try one of the following solutions.
- Try pressing the Armband button first, then the "mode" button on the Display to initiate the communication between the Armband and Display. Now wait a few seconds to allow the Armband and Display to synchronize. If the Display message goes back to 'Not In Sync,' then repeat this process.
- Try recharging the Armband battery often improves Armband-Display communication.
- DO NOT try repeatedly pressing the Armband button as this will not help. Just tap it once and let go.
- Avoid a long-press of the Armband button, of 15 seconds or more. This will reboot the Armband and stop communication between the Armband and the Display.
- If you have tried all of the previous steps and are still having trouble syncing your display and armband you may need to replace the battery inside the display device. For more information on changing the display battery please click here.
- My Display says "ARMBAND NOT SET UP".
This can happen when a users body parameters are not saved in the armband. This can happen for 2 reasons:
- The initial armband setup has not been completed. For more information of setting up your armband please click here.
- The battery has become very low and the internal memory of the armband has cleared the body parameters of the user. To correct this issue please sync your armband to your account to reload your parameters.
- How do I reset the Display?
- To have the Display synchronize with the last known Armband:
Press the "mode" button.
The Display will show a message asking for you to press the Armband
button.
- To enable the Display to synchronize with a new Armband:
Press and hold "view" then also press "mode" for 3 seconds or
more.
The Display will beep.
- To reset the Display:
Simultaneously press all 4 buttons, "mode" + "view" + "light" + "reset"
for 5 seconds or more.
The Display firmware version will be shown and the back-light will
flash.
