BodyMedia FIT Armband Advantage
Support

- How does the Armband calculate calories burned?
The Armband contains 4 sensors that measure motion, body temperature fluctuations, skin temperature, and skin conductivity (galvanic skin response). A proprietary algorithm uses this collected raw information along with your personal body parameters to deliver readings on calories, activity levels, steps, lying down, and sleep time.
- Armband Location - does it have to be worn on the left arm?
The Armband should always be worn high on the triceps area of the left arm, with the sensors touching the skin, with the logo on top, closer to the shoulder.
- Waterproof - is the Armband waterproof or is there such a model?
No, the Armband is water resistant, not waterproof, and is not designed to be used underwater or to come into continuous contact with water. Do not immerse the Armband in water or perform water-based activities, such as swimming or bathing, while wearing the Armband. Water activities can manually be added to the system using the Edit Off-Body feature. As a water resistant device, the Armband works properly when it comes in contact with rain, fog or sweat.
- Charging - can I charge with a wall charger or on a computer without the BodyMedia SYNC software?
Currently, the only supported way to charge the Armband is to use the provided USB cable attached to either the PC or Mac.
- Traveling - Airplane, car, etc.?
- Airplane - The device and wireless accessories should not be used in airplanes, hospitals, or locations where cellular telephones or electronic devices are prohibited. Please remove your Armband from your arm to turn the unit off.
- Car - The device may register activity if you are in a moving vehicle that is not riding smoothly. If it's an abnormally bumpy ride, you might consider taking the Armband off and simply use the Edit Off-Body function.
More
- My Armband will not sync with my Activity Manager (eg. will not automatically upload data).
This particular issue can be caused by a number of factors. Let's address these specific issues one at a time.
- My Armband will not automatically turn on (also known as Going on Body).
Wear your Armband on the back of the upper left arm (the triceps). To work properly, the BodyMedia logo must face upward towards the shoulder and the silver sensors on the underside of the Armband will be in contact with your skin. Be sure the upper left arm is clean, dry, and free of lotion or oil then slide the Armband onto your left arm.
The Armband will turn on and begin collecting data within 10 minutes. Activation is indicated by a series of audio tones. Please note that there is no power button on the Armband.
To check if your Armband is ready to collect data, press the Armband's Status Button. If the Armband beeps, it is working correctly. The Status lights will also indicate whether the Armband is ready to collect data:
- If the battery light is flashing red, recharge the battery.
- If the memory light is flashing red then the memory is full. Upload the Armband data to the Activity Manager.
- I am receiving an error retrieving software updates.
The issue you are experiencing is normally caused when a firewall application is blocking the update for the BodyMedia software. To correct the issue, please verify that the BodyMedia software has full access to pass through your computers personnel firewall. Please refer to your Anti-virus/Firewall documentation relevant for your own computer for more information on how configure your firewall to allow access for 3rd party software. You can also download the latest BodyMedia software update form the following link:

- When I plug in my Armband, nothing happens.
Sometimes USB ports can malfunction, which can interfere with the SYNC software detecting the Armband. To resolve this issue, please follow the instructions below:
- Unplug the Armband from the USB cable.
- Unplug the USB cable from the computer.
- SHUTDOWN the computer (do not use restart), wait 30 seconds and then turn the computer back on.
- After the computer restarts, plug the USB cable into the computer.
- Plug the Armband into the USB cable.
This process will reset the USB ports on your computer so that your Armband will sync properly.
If the above steps do not correct your issue, try switching to a different USB port or switch USB cables if possible.
