Vice President of Product Development and Operations

As Vice President of Product Development and Operations for BodyMedia, Inc., Sam has overall responsibility for establishing and maintaining daily operations in manufacturing and logistics to meet customer needs. He is also responsible for new product development activities, assuring a steady pipeline of new and enhanced products in support of the business strategy. In this role, he leads engineering, supply chain and production to enable growth.

Sam has heavy experience in technical and operations roles in a variety of business environments, including medical devices. He most recently served as Vice President of Product Development and Operations for the rapidly growing medical device company Medela. At Medela, he invigorated the product development process, leading to the successful launch of multiple new, innovative, research based products. He led the implementation of effective operations processes in support of expansion into retail channels, including Wal-Mart, Babies R Us, and Target. In addition, Sam directed manufacturing, engineering and supply chain teams to identify process efficiencies and reduce manufactured costs while improving responsiveness to customer needs. Before joining Medela, Sam held Operations and Technical roles for Morton Specialty Chemicals and Quantum Chemical Company, among others.

Sam’s broad background in operations and technical leadership will enable BodyMedia to continue to expand its global product line. He holds an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Missouri and is a Master of Business Administration from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
